Chronic Absenteeism Calculator

Combine excused, unexcused, suspension, and other missed days and compare the total with the applicable chronic-absence reference.

Chronic absence commonly counts instructional time missed regardless of whether an absence is excused. Truancy is a separate concept.
Include these only when the attendance record or reporting method treats the time as missed instructional days.
State selection adds the latest bundled state context. It does not change basic percentage arithmetic unless that state record specifies a different chronic-absence reference.
Reference used: 10.0% of enrolled school days missed.

Results are educational calculations, not a legal attendance determination. State, district, and school attendance rules can differ.

Why excused absences are included

Chronic absenteeism generally measures how much instructional time a student misses, not whether each absence was excused. That is why excused and unexcused absences are commonly counted together. Some reporting systems also include missed time connected with out-of-school suspension.

Chronic absenteeism is different from truancy

Truancy usually focuses on unexcused absences and is defined through state law or local attendance policy. Reaching a chronic-absence percentage does not by itself determine whether a student is legally truant.
