Use this calculator to convert missed school days into attendance and absence percentages. It also estimates how many additional missed days would reach the chronic-absence reference and projects year-end absences if the current pattern continues.
School Absence Calculator
Calculate attendance and absence rates, distance from the common chronic-absence reference, and a year-end projection.
Results are educational calculations, not a legal attendance determination. State, district, and school attendance rules can differ.
How to read the result
A common chronic-absence reference is 10% of enrolled school days. In a 180-day school year, 10% is 18 days. The calculator uses enrolled days for the current percentage, so the reference changes as additional school days are added.
- Attendance rate is attended days divided by enrolled days.
- Absence rate is missed days divided by enrolled days.
- Additional missed days to reference estimates how many future enrolled days, if all missed, would bring the calculated absence rate to the selected reference.
- Year-end projection extends the current absence rate across the entered full-year calendar.
For a breakdown of different absence types, use the Chronic Absenteeism Calculator. To see how attendance can improve with consecutive attended days, use the Attendance Target Calculator.
